 What is Orff?

The Orff approach to music education was developed by the composer Carl Orff along with his colleague Gunild Keetman during the middle of the 20th century as they worked with children in post-war Germany. In the 1960s, the approach was introduced to the United States and since has spread throughout the world. At its core, the Orff approach is a child-centered, active way of music learning using rhythmic speech, singing, Orff percussion instruments and creative movement activities. Children are a part of the creative music-making process.
